Prince Harry returns to Britain for Invictus Games anniversary: report

London:

Prince Harry will return to Britain next month to commemorate a major milestone of the Invictus Games, the sporting event he founded a decade ago, CNN reported.

Prince Harry will deliver a talk at a ceremony at London's St Paul's Cathedral on May 8, marking the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games. His last visit to Britain was in February, following the announcement of his father King Charles' cancer diagnosis.

Reflecting on his quick journey, Harry expressed his gratitude for being able to spend time with his family during this difficult time. However, it remains unclear whether he will have the opportunity to meet his family members during his upcoming visit.

Since moving to the United States with his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, in 2020, Prince Harry has made occasional visits to Britain, including attending Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in 2022 and the coronation of his father last year, as reported by CNN.

As for Meghan's attendance at the Invictus celebration, things remain uncertain, especially given the proximity of their son Prince Archie's fifth birthday on May 6.

Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles, who is undergoing treatment, will soon resume his public duties. While his schedule will be carefully managed in consultation with his medical team, he is expected to welcome Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako for a state visit in June.

The Invictus Games, initiated by Prince Harry following his service in Afghanistan, serve as a platform to support the recovery of wounded, injured and ill service members and veterans.

The next edition of the games will take place in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, in February 2025, with more than 500 competitors from 20 countries taking part in adaptive sports. Additionally, winter sports including alpine skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing will be introduced for the first time, in partnership with First Nations communities as part of truth and reconciliation efforts, CNN reported.
