Chinese leader Xi Jinping welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin Thursday in Beijing, where both countries are trying to strengthen their strategic relationship.

On the trade front, US President Joe Biden this week announced tough new tariffs on $18 billion of Chinese imports to protect US industries from what Washington has called “unfair trade practices” by China.

Putin is expected to meet Chinese Premier Li Qiang and travel to the northeastern city of Harbin for a trade and investment expo, said Russian state media.
