Starbucks and Grubhub are teaming up to offer coffee deliveries as the coffee company looks to expand its reach.
Starbucks will launch its delivery service with Grubhub in Pennsylvania, Colorado and Illinois this month before expanding to all 50 US states in August. Companies announced this on Thursday.
Customers can order and customize most Starbucks food and beverage items through Grubhub's mobile app or website, where they can also track order status, the Seattle-based coffee company said.
Customers could already order Starbucks food and drinks through DoorDash, Uber Eats and Postmates delivery services, and the coffee company noticed the increase in demand for delivery services.
“Customer demand for Starbucks delivery continues to increase, as evidenced by double-digit growth in the U.S. delivery business last quarter, indicating that our customers continue to want convenience in their daily lives,” said Meg Mathes, vice president digital experiences at Starbucks, according to Thursday's press release.
Starbucks has developed new packaging items, such as two-cup takeout containers and new shopping bags, so delivery people can easily carry multiple items at once, the company said.
The announcement follows a disappointing final quarter for Starbucks, which saw its first-quarter sales decline 2 percent, below market expectations.
Grubhub customers who sign up for the $9.99 monthly membership program can purchase Starbucks items with no delivery fees, reduced service fees and special promotions, the company added.
“By joining forces with a beloved national brand like Starbucks, we are offering customers more of what they want on Grubhub, while strengthening our enterprise offering and expanding our selection of merchants in marketplaces nationwide,” said Liz Bosone, vice president of enterprise partnerships at Grubhub. .
