Rain, wind and snow and a wet, windy weekend

As thunderstorms roll across the Front Range and plains this weekend, snowstorms are developing in the mountains and foothills, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday's line of storms — both rain and freezing — will continue at all elevations through Sunday, forecasters said.

Residents in the Denver area will see intermittent rain showers throughout the morning Friday before the storm heats up around 4 p.m. and peaks in intensity overnight into Saturday and Sunday. according to NWS meteorologists.

Denver alone received a quarter of an inch of rain on Thursday, and another two to three inches of rain are expected to fall in the city and surrounding metro area early Sunday. forecasters said.

The rain and thunderstorms have cooled temperatures in Denver, according to NWS forecasters.

The metro area will see high temperatures in the mid to high range on Friday, dropping to low temperatures overnight and staying there through Saturday. forecasters said.

Small hail and strong winds could accompany the storms across the Front Range and Plains, according to a NWS Hazardous Weather Outlook.

While one to three inches of rain is expected in lower parts of Colorado this weekend, the mountains could see one to three feet of snow, according to the hazardous weather outlook. Up to 18 inches is possible in the foothills above 7,000 feet.

Areas like Georgetown and Winter Park are expected to get up to 2 feet of snow, while Berthoud Pass and Rocky Mountain National Park could each accumulate nearly 4 feet of snow. according to NWS snowfall projections.
