OneXPlayer's X1-Mini launches today for $799

At the end of May, OneXPlayer unveiled the X1-Mini, its latest portable gaming PC, and today marks its official launch. If you're not familiar with OneXPlayer, it makes portable gaming PCs in various forms. The OneXPlayer units have been around for at least a few years, and they were even around before Valve released the original Steam Deck or Steam Deck OLED. While many have taken form like the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, ROG Ally

It's a computer that's baked into the display and to which you can attach controllers, just like the Nintendo Switch. However, these controllers look more like full-size controllers when the whole thing is put together. It's a nice little take on the portable gaming PC, and today is the first day you can order one. That said, there are some things to note. The launch of OneXPlayer X1-Mini is currently taking place on Indiegogo. This means that you can place your order at this time, but the device is not yet ready for shipment. In fact, it won't be ready to ship until July 2024. The good news is that July is next month.

The OneXPlayer X1-Mini launch starts at $799 for early bird orders

Price-wise, the X1-Mini now starts at $799, but this is an early bird price and there's only a limited time to get your hands on one at that cheaper price. Specifically, the early bird price ends in just under three days. After that, the price of the X1-Mini will increase and it will cost $1,099. At this price, the X1-Mini comes with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage. However, you can easily add more storage space to the device at any time. One of the unique features of the X1-Mini is the SSD Swap function.

“But you can replace the SSD on many PCs,” I hear you say. You're quite right. But on the X1-Mini, the SSD slot is user accessible without taking the entire unit apart. On the back of the screen there is a stand with two small screws, you remove those, and then there is a small hatch that you can take off to remove the SSD and install a new one. You don't have to take the shell apart to get to the ramp.

You must turn off the X1-Mini before changing the drive, and OneXPlayer says to prevent the unit from being connected. Because supplying power to the motherboard even through the charger while the X1-Mini is turned off can lead to component damage. Other than that, this is as simple as it gets for adding a larger capacity SSD. There are also models with more internal storage out of the box.

You can get the X1-Mini with up to 2TB of storage space

If you'd rather not do an SSD swap for a while, OneXPlayer does offer a model of the X1-Mini that comes with 2TB of storage right out of the box. This model also comes with 32GB of RAM, so it's quite a powerful unit. That said, the price is just as solid. The regular price for this device is $1,359, or $1,059 if you get it during the early bird sale. There are also only a limited number of each unit at the early bird price. So if this is a device you're looking for and you want to save money, you should jump on it ASAP. There is also a model with up to 64 GB of RAM.

As for the CPU and GPU, the X1-Mini runs the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U CPU and the AMD Radeon 780M GPU.

Many accessories are included

To sweeten the purchase, OneXPlayer packs a handful of accessories to enhance the experience. The most striking feature is the magnetic keyboard. After all, this is a PC and it runs Windows 11. So of course you can use this as a PC if you want. To make this more convenient, the X1-Mini comes with a magnetic keyboard attachment. You simply disconnect the controllers, connect the keyboard, and then connect a wireless mouse. You can now use it as you would use a regular tablet PC.

It also comes with a mouse, a hub, a protective bag, a bumper defender and a pre-applied film over the screen. These are probably the benefits that come with the Indiegogo orders. When OneXPlayer starts selling this in its own store, these will likely all be optional accessories that you have to pay for.
