Former President Donald Trump is slimming down his list of potential running mates, and one lawmaker is moving up, according to a report from The New York Times.
Sources close to Trump claim that Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton is quickly becoming a top candidate for the role, according to a Friday report from the outlet.
The three sources – which remained nameless in the report – said Trump appreciates Cotton's reliability and clear communication on policy.

Trump has kept his vice presidential machinations close to his chest since the start of the 2024 campaign, offering a variety of names at different times. Cotton has also been unwilling to confirm or deny rumors about his prospects in a hypothetical second Trump administration.
“I suspect only Donald Trump knows who is really on his short list,” the senator told Fox News on Monday.

He continued: “When we talk, we talk about what it will take to win this election in November – to elect President Trump to another term in the White House and elect a Republican Congress so we can begin to repair of the damage done. Joe Biden's presidency has affected this country.”
Many of Trump's former enemies and rivals are now leading vice-presidential hopefuls, including South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, Florida Senator Marco Rubio and former North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum. Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio is another name floating around.
The campaign recently declared that former primary opponent Nikki Haley, former governor of South Carolina and former U.N. ambassador, will not be considered.
