How Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico's bodyguards took action after he was shot

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot today

New Delhi:

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot and hospitalized today after a cabinet meeting in the central city of Handlova.

Footage of the aftermath of the attack shows his bodyguards taking him away in his armored limousine.

The daily Dennik N, whose reporter saw the prime minister being lifted into a car by guards, reported that the suspected gunman had been arrested by police, the AFP news agency reported.

Eastern European media NEXTA said in a report on X, citing local reports, that the prime minister had been shot several times.

“One against the stomach, one against the head. His condition is serious,” NEXTA said in the post.

EU chief Ursula von der Leyen denounced the “despicable attack” on Robert Fico.

“I strongly condemn the vicious attack on Prime Minister Robert Fico. Such acts of violence have no place in our society and undermine democracy, our most precious public interest. My thoughts are with Prime Minister Fico and his family,” Von der Leyen said on X.

Slovak President Zuzana Caputova condemned the “brazen and reckless” attack on the prime minister. “I am shocked. “I wish Robert Fico much strength at this critical moment to recover from the attack,” she said in a statement, calling it “a brazen and reckless attack.”
