While it was unclear why Trump was allowed to attend his pre-sentencing hearing via Zoom, insiders explained that allowing the ex-president virtually “could be better” for Trump's parole officer.
“One could argue that Trump's appearance at the probation office on the tenth floor of the Criminal Court Building in Manhattan, where his trial took place, with the Secret Service and the press following him, would be highly disruptive to the probation office and unfair to other defendants who may not wish to be identified,” Martijn Hoornwho previously served as commissioner of the New York City Department of Corrections and Rebation, explained Monday.
“So ultimately this might be better for the probation officer,” Horn added — though he did acknowledge that it was “highly unusual for a pre-sentence examination to be conducted via Zoom.”
