26 percent of Gen Z job candidates bring their parents to a job interview: survey

(NewsNation) — Some Gen Z respondents need help from their parents during a job interview, according to a new survey.

Survey resume templates found that 26 percent of Gen Z respondents actually involve their parents in the interview process; 31 percent of these respondents had a parent accompany them to an in-person interview and 29 percent had them participate in a virtual interview.

Of those who said a parent accompanied them to an in-person interview, 37 percent of respondents said their mother or father came to the office, and 26 percent of respondents said one of their parents was physically in the room while the interview took place. took place.

Of those who said they had a parent with them during a virtual interview, 71 percent said their parent was off-camera, while 29 percent said their parent was visible on camera.

According to the survey, the majority of parents on camera spoke directly to the hiring manager.

“It is understandable that parents want to ensure that their child does well at a job interview or that an employer has a good reputation. Conversely, it is difficult to see whether a parent directly involved in a job interview is appropriate,” executive resume writer Andrew Stoner told Resume Templates. “It does not show confidence in a hiring company on behalf of the child. I recommend a 'remote support' approach, where you are available and advise the child during the recruitment process.”
