Officials rescued an 18-year-old man who fell 30 feet into an abandoned missile silo near Deer Trail on Sunday morning. This was reported by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office.
The man fell into the silo, a concrete cylinder sunk into the ground, near 82000 East County Road 22 in Deer Trail about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, the sheriff said. Two of the man's friends, an 18-year-old man and a young man, followed him into the silo through a broken gate after he fell and five youths, two boys and three girls, waited above ground, officials said.
Around 6 a.m., the two friends who were in the silo were rescued. Officials contacted the injured man around 6:30 a.m. He was rescued from the silo at 8:30 a.m. and transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to a Sunday news release from the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office.
The 18-year-old man who followed the victim into the silo was issued a citation for third-degree trespassing, the release said. The youths, who all attend high schools in the Cherry Creek School District, were released to their parents on suspicion of possible trespassing. Possible trespassing charges are also pending for the injured victim, who was released, according to officials.
