Critics have called for the Kansas City Chiefs to fire Butker over the commencement speech.

Butker came under fire when his speech at the Catholic university went viral. In his speech, the Chiefs kicker condemned Pride month, abortion rightsIVF, surrogacy and women building a career over marriage and family.

While the NFL tried to distance itself from Butker's statements, fans were outraged created a petition calling on the Kansas City Chiefs organization to “fire” the three-time Super Bowl winner from the team.

Goldberg defended Butker amid continued backlash.

The view co-hosts discussed the ongoing controversy on the daytime talk show Thursday.

“Listen, I love it when people say what they need to say. He goes to a Catholic university, he's a staunch Catholic, these are his beliefs, and he's welcome there,” Goldberg told her co-hosts.

Goldberg argued that people do not have to “accept” Butker's beliefs, but they should “respect” them.

After Goldberg explained that people should “respect” Butker's beliefs regardless of how they feel about his statements, she added, “We want to show respect to people whose ideas are different than ours.”

The comedian then compared the recent reactions to Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem in 2016 as a form of protest against police brutality. Goldberg said people at the time wanted “the same” respect for Kaepernick expressing his beliefs.

Goldberg did not believe Butker should be released from the Chiefs due to the controversy.

“I'm fine with him saying whatever he says, and the women who were sitting there, if they follow his advice, good for them, they'll be happy. If they don't, good for them, they'll be happy in some other way,” Goldberg continued. “That's my attitude.”

As the crowd applauded Goldberg, she added that the Chiefs should not fire Butker over the controversy.

“I have the right to say what I say. He has the right to say what he says,” Goldberg explained. “If you say to someone, 'I don't like what you said, and that's why I'm going to have your job taken away because you don't agree with me,' that's a problem for me.”

The Sister Act star also compared Butker being attacked for his comments to the hate she and her co-hosts receive for their comments on the talk show.

“It happens to us all the time! That's why I stand up for him and say –– I don't understand what he's talking about because I'm not that Catholic –– but I have to say, just like I have my opinion, we have our opinion .”
