Rain showers linger in Denver, over the Plains

The series of thunderstorms and snowstorms in Colorado will continue Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Lingering rain showers may remain across the plains of northeast and north-central Colorado on Sunday. Snow showers in the mountains will decrease as the day progresses, but a few extra inches of snow is possible. Widespread rain showers with several inches of snowfall in the northern mountains could return Wednesday, according to NWS forecasters.

There is a slight chance of showers in Denver on Sunday morning, with showers and thunderstorms possible after noon. Sunday will be partly sunny with a high of 59 degrees and a 30% chance of precipitation. Wind gusts can reach up to 15 kilometers per hour.

Sunday evening will be partly cloudy with a low of 39 degrees and a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9pm. Monday and Tuesday are expected to be mostly clear with highs in the low 70s. Showers and thunderstorms return Wednesday with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms after the afternoon and could continue throughout the week.

Showers, high-altitude snow showers and thunderstorms will develop later in the day in higher elevations of central, eastern, and southern central and southeastern Colorado and move across the Plains Sunday evening, the NWS said.

Lingering snow showers with light accumulation will continue over the mountains and higher terrain of Teller and El Paso County. Freezing fog is possible for parts of the Palmer Divide.

There is a small chance that some of these showers and thunderstorms could cause flash flooding for burn areas and urbanized areas. Wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour and dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning with hail up to half an inch in diameter are possible. A few more inches of snow could fall over the southern Sangre de Cristo and Wet Mountains.
