Liverpool's Europa League run is over and Premier League dreams are fading, so where do the Reds go from here?

In January, when Jürgen Klopp announced his intention to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, as they took a step back from day-to-day management, it felt as if the club would use that news as a rallying cry to win a treble, competing in the Premier League, EFL Cup, FA Cup and Europa League. Thursday, when the Reds crashed out of the Europa League at the hands of the Reds Atalantawinning the second leg 1-0 but falling on aggregate 3-1 means the EFL Cup win is over Chelsea may be their only cutlery of the season. Even though we are only two points behind Manchester city There is a sense of inevitability in the league now that the league lead has slipped out of The Red's hands.

Deficient defensively and with their third choice in defensive midfield Wataru EndoLiverpool's lack of depth in critical positions has been evident, with key games played twice a week with the team unable to rotate effectively. Mohammed Salah is once again among the best strikers in the Premier League with 17 goals and nine assists in just 26 games played, but even with the third highest number of goals scored the Reds lag behind Arsenal in goal difference with the duo on points level.

The remaining schedule is nice, but history shows that City does not stop when City sticks its nose at the front of the Premier League. It's one thing in a knockout match, but in a test of endurance, few can beat Pep Guardiola's machine. Liverpool have come close, but if they fail to do so again this season, Klopp's tenure will come to an end and many will be left wondering what comes next.

Linked to Sports Club Portugal Manager Ruben Amorim looks set to tone down Liverpool's heavy metal football approach in the coming years, but Amorim's system could help cover up some of the club's weaknesses. Amorin is ready to win the Portuguese league with an impressive Sporting side and prefers a 3-4-3 formation, although he can be flexible with his approach depending on what a specific game requires.

Here's what you need to know:

What does it take to make this work?

Switching to a 3-4-3 makes it possible Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson to demonstrate their excellent creative skills while replacing a midfielder with an additional centre-back. This would mean a new defender would be needed, but there is a fairly easy target for Sporting's Amorim to follow. Managers like to bring in players who know their systems and Goncalo Inacio is someone who could be ready for the Premier League.

Inacio has thrived with a back three and shouldn't stop Liverpool from doing more business along the defense as he can be deployed where he is needed most while still providing good ball progression. Breaking into the Sporting squad under Amorim in 2020, the 22-year-old's rise came at the same time as that of his manager. This also fits in with Liverpool's standard mode of targeting younger players and is a move that would make sense anywhere.

Amorim ended a 19-year drought with a breakthrough title at Sporting Benfica And That of Porto dominance in the league and has the chance to achieve a double this season with the league and Taca de Portugal in his sights. It will take a lot to conquer Manchester City's domestic dominance, but Amorim has the necessary experience with fewer resources at his disposal.

One of the only moments of this impressive season for Sporting also comes in the Europa League, where they fell to the same Atalanta side as Liverpool, but there were questions about Amorim's formation decisions in the match. It's something he will learn from, even in Italy. It was one goal that made the difference, but with a deeper team in the starting line-up. Englandeven rotation will be easier to get the best out of his side, as wide central defenders dictate the pace of the game.

What happens to Mohammed Salah?

After already receiving offers to move there Saudi ArabiaQuestions will arise around Salah's future without Klopp at Liverpool. Although the Egyptian is legendary for the club, the team is in a position where there are enough strong attackers to field a formidable attack while getting the best out of Darwin Nunez in attack.

The Uruguayan has been an enigma since joining Liverpool as both his goals and misses have been spectacular, but when the attack gets through him, his finishing issues don't look that bad. Nunez does exactly what is expected when Salah isn't starting games, making it seem as if he simply doesn't feel comfortable as a secondary option in an attack, rather than as a primary option. For Benfica and UruguayNunez developed into the man while at Liverpool everything runs through Salah, and for good reason.

Looking specifically at the Europa League and Premier League ahead of the second leg, here are Nunez's stats, split with and without Salah:

Games

26

13

xG 12.48 8.73

Goals

7

9

Assists

7

2

13 games may be a small sample size, but it's not insignificant either. It clearly shows that Nunez can finish the chances expected of him. It just comes down to finding the right balance. He scored more goals in half the number of matches.

There will be some doubts, but whoever Liverpool's new manager is, he or she will be in a dream scenario. Most of the team is ready to succeed and if players like Salah and Virgil van Dijk need to be replaced, there will be money for that. Following a manager as entrenched as Klopp will leave them with big shoes to fill, but with the right adjustments, this is a team that can soar to new heights with a strong foundation. We could see a new, more passive version of Liverpool defensively, but that might not be a bad thing as they look to win big again.
