Democratic Congressman Ilhan Omar's daughter, Isra Hirsihas been suspended from Barnard College for her involvement in an anti-Israel protest on Columbia University's Morningside Heights campus, RadarOnline.com has learned.
Hirsi, 21, announced her suspension in a social media post on Thursday.

“I am an organizer with CU Apartheid Divest @ColumbiaSJP, in my three years at @BarnardCollege I have never been reprimanded or received disciplinary warnings,” the 21-year-old began her. X message.
“I just received notice that I am 1 of 3 students who have been suspended stand in solidarity with the Palestinians confronted with a genocide.”

In a follow-up post, Hirsi remained steadfast in her anti-Israel stance: “Those of us in the Gaza Solidarity Camp will not be intimidated. We will stand firm until our demands are met.”
The daughter of the Minnesota representative added: “Our demands include divestment from companies complicit in genocide, transparency of @Columbia's investments, and COMPLETE amnesty for all students facing repression.”

On Thursday, NYPD officers in riot gear removed more than 100 students in handcuffs, including Hirsi, after protesters took over the Columbia campus as part of a demonstration against the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Fellow protesters shouted “Shame!” and “Let them go,” as the protesters were escorted off campus.
President of Columbia University Nemat “Minouche” Shafik announced in a statement that she authorized the NYPD to clear the protesters.

“This morning I had to make a decision that I hoped would never be necessary,” Shafik's statement read. ABC news. “I regret that all of these efforts to resolve the situation have been rebuffed by the students involved. As a result, NYPD officers are now on campus and the process of clearing the camp is underway.”
“I have always said that the safety of our community was my top priority and that we must maintain an environment where everyone can learn in a supportive context.”

Columbia's president authorized the camp's evacuation after Hirsi and dozens of others set up tents in protest against the ongoing conflict in Gazawhere millions of people face famine as a result of the IDF military offensive in response to the October 7 attacks Hamas attacks.
A day before Hirsi's suspension, her mother and others on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce questioned Shafik about rising anti-Semitism on the Columbia campus.

Republican representative. Virginia Foxx of North Carolina opened the hearing by saying Columbia was one of the “hotbeds” of anti-Semitism on elite college campuses that have done little to “counter that and protect students and staff.”
Shafik emphasized that Columbia “strives to be a community free from discrimination and hatred in all forms and we condemn the anti-Semitism that is so prevalent today.”
