Christina Applegate opened up about the “real depression” of her MS battle.

Applegate was diagnosed with MS in 2021.

“I'm in a depression right now, which I don't think I've felt in years,” Applegate told Sigler.

“Like a real, damn depression that also scares me a little, because it feels very fatalistic. I'm now trapped in a darkness that I haven't felt yet [in]I don't even know how long, probably 20 years.”

The 'Dead to Me' star confessed that she feels 'trapped' in a 'darkness' because of her MS.

While the podcast episode was released on June 4, the episode was recorded after the 52-year-old made a surprise appearance at the Emmy Awards in mid-January, where the Dead to me star received a standing ovation.

Applegate called the event “the hardest day” of her life and revealed that she slept for the next two days.

“This is very honest… I don't enjoy life,” Applegate admitted. “I don't enjoy it. I don't enjoy things anymore.”

Sigler, who has battled MS for more than two decades, sympathized with the struggles of living with a “disabled body,” and encouraged the Anchorman star to continue.

“Once we get you to this place where we accept that this is how it will be, maybe forever…[coping with MS] is not reason enough for you to stop living, because I'm sitting here across from you, and you still make me laugh like no one else can,” Sigler told her guest.

“You still make me laugh. You make me feel loved. I can't let you give up. I can not do that. I want you to do it for me.”

Applegate said she is “so scared” about seeking therapy for her depression because she “won't be able to stop” her emotions.

Applegate admitted that part of the reason she was “so scared” about going back to therapy for her depression was because she didn't want to let all her emotions out.

“I'm so scared that the floodgates will open and I won't be able to stop,” Applegate said.

Applegate, 52, was diagnosed with MS in 2021, although she revealed this in an interview Good morning America interview with Sigler that she probably lived with the chronic disease for “six or seven years” before her diagnosis.

“My symptoms started in early 2021 and it was literally tingling in my toes,” Applegate said. “And by the time we started shooting in the summer of that same year, I was put in a wheelchair. I couldn't walk that far.”
