Become the Batman in this upcoming Meta Quest 3 game

The Meta Quest 3 is getting an exclusive game release with Batman: Arkham Shadow, the latest game in the Arkham franchise, which Meta just officially announced this morning. The VR title requires a Meta Quest 3 headset, meaning you'll need to upgrade if you have the Quest 2 and want to play it.

The game is being developed by Camouflaj and Oculus Studios and will be released sometime in 2024. Meta has no official word on the game. So most of the information available comes straight from the trailer. That said, the trailer does mention that it will be released in late 2024. That suggests it won't be released until the second half of the year. So if we had to guess, it'll land somewhere closer to the holidays.

As The Verge notes, more details about the game will be revealed at the Summer Games Festival. This event will take place next month. The event's host and founder, Geoff Keighley, confirmed on X that the showcase will reveal more about the game.

Batman: Arkham Shadow apparently features a series of staple cards, and a trailer hints at one of the villains

One of the more iconic and popular features of the Batman Arkham games is the map traversal. You're given a fairly large map of Gotham City and you can explore much of it by sending Batman gliding through the air. Obviously you can't slide over the entire map. But it is possible to spread Batman's 'wings', so to speak, and let him soar over shorter distances, unknowingly taking enemies with him.

The teaser trailer released today could suggest that Arkham Shadow will feature this type of gameplay. The entire teaser is cinematic. So it's not really clear what the gameplay will look like. However, the trailer shows Batman soaring through the air before eventually landing on the streets of Gotham to battle a large horde of rats. There are two things that can be taken from this.

The sliding may indicate that players will be able to slide and travel from point to point just like in the other Arkham games. The other detail worth exploring is the rats. At the beginning of the trailer, the camera focuses on one rat. Which Batman seems to be hunting. As soon as he lands, a wall of red eyes lights up as a horde of rats begins to pour out of the shadows. Batman then throws down a smoke bomb. This could be a hint Ratcather being a core villain in the game. Because Ratcatcher uses rats for his evil exploits.
