ASUS confirms ROG Ally

ASUS has officially confirmed the next ROG Ally handheld, and it's called the ROG Ally ROG YouTube channel on May 9, ASUS' Whitson Gordon and Jake Kulinski gave a brief overview of the updated handheld.

Gordon was clear that this is not the ROG Ally 2, which is why “2” was dropped from the name. And the main reason for that is that the ROG Ally on an Ally 2. It's somewhere in the middle, Gordon said. As of January this year, a rumor was spotted that ASUS is planning a second Ally for launch in 2024. And this appears to be that handheld, rather than a true second-generation model.

Not many details have been revealed about the Ally X, but ASUS does confirm that a full announcement is on the way. “The next ROG Ally is coming,” the company says, and it plans to make the full announcement on June 2. Only a few more weeks. That said, ASUS shares some of the changes that are being introduced. And they're all essentially changes that ASUS has made based on feedback from the passionate ROG Ally community.

The ROG Ally

One of the main complaints about the original ROG Ally is its battery life, as it lasts noticeably less than the Steam Deck. ASUS has taken that information to heart and has significantly improved the battery with the ROG Ally What ASUS does say is that the battery life is “very good”. This implies that there is a significant improvement over the original.

The Ally X also has more RAM. Plus, there's a new update coming to the Armory Crate, making things look neater and a little more organized. This includes the addition of a new tab to add certain games to a favorites list. After you add these games to your favorites, this tab can show those games. This makes it easier to find everything you're currently playing. This will be useful for anyone who has a large game library. Because you can delete everything you are not currently playing.

Another small but welcome change is the ability to separate your Steam games from the rest of your library. A new 'Platforms' tab lists games based on the platform they belong to. So your Xbox games are separate from your Steam games, and so on.

The new list view adds further customization of the game library

ASUS unfortunately didn't have much to share in terms of the list view, other than that it is available. There will also be a new home screen customization option that lets you resize and reorder the tiles for your games, and there's even a wallpaper of the game currently highlighted. You can also have the tiles placed at the top, middle or bottom of the screen. Moving to more new options, you can press the X key on the game library screen and get options to delete a game now.

ASUS was very clear that Armory Crate does not actually remove the game. The uninstall option merely acts as a way to go directly to the Windows uninstall screen. So it's much faster.

Something that the entire community should be excited about is the upcoming ability to upload profiles for button assignments and the like. This allows players to trade them. If you'd like to watch the full video about the changes ASUS shared this week, you can find it below. And the full announcement is only a few weeks out.
